VinFast (VFS), a Vietnamese EV manufacturer, might soon introduce the least expensive EV in the US. US dealers were given a sneak peek at VinFast’s VF 3 electric car, which is expected to go for less than $20,000.
VinFast is considering bringing a fifth electric model to the US market, which could be very beneficial.
The EV manufacturer is planning to release additional models in addition to the VF e34, VF 5, VF 8, and VF 9. Before the VF 6 and VF 7 are shipped worldwide, VinFast is getting ready to introduce them in Vietnam.
The VF 3 is its most recent addition. Although the electric minicar was created specifically for Vietnam, it might also find a home in the US and other international markets.
In June, VinFast unveiled the VF 3, an electric minicar that is small but still functional. Even though the small SUV is only 10.2 feet (3,114 mm) long, five people can fit inside.
The car has sixteen-inch wheels and plenty of ground clearance despite its small size.
Next year, VinFast is anticipated to start selling the VF 3 in Vietnam. What about the US, then?
When will VinFast introduce its $20,000 electric car in the US?
According to company representatives who spoke with Automotive News, VinFast is thinking about bringing the electric vehicle into its US lineup. The lowest priced EV in the US could be the VinFast VF 3, which could start at about $20,000.
With the aim of selling models through US dealers, VinFast is changing its business approach. The EV manufacturer has already held a number of meetings, and the general response has been favorable.
VinFast told AN, “We are discussing with a majority of large, well-established dealers across the US, following the positive responses from our dealers.” Adding “Further details will be announced in due course.”
According to VinFast advisor Duke Hale, the discontinuation of other A-segment vehicles such as the Fiat 500 and Chevy Spark could create an opportunity for VinFast.
Prospective VinFast dealers hope that the VF 3 will attract consumers searching for an electric vehicle (EV) that costs no more than $20,000.
According to Hale, the EV manufacturer met with potential dealers twice in the previous month. To show dealers, VinFast even brought a life-sized foam model of the VF3.
Almost all of the dealers, or about 100 of them, the advisor said, wanted to see the VF 3 arrive in the United States.
“They liked the whole lineup, but the VF 3, I would say, got an almost 100 percent response.” Hale explained in an interview, “They really liked the VF 3, and the reason is it’s probably sub-$20,000.”
While the VF 3’s price has not yet been disclosed, VinFast’s larger VF 6 is available in Vietnam for about $26,000.
VinFast unveiled the VF 6, VF 7, VF 8, and three-row VF 9 as the four EVs in its US lineup. In July, it also began construction on its first US EV plant. A $20,000 electric car, however, would provide something special and in-demand.
