Porsche’s most famous vehicle, the 911, has been significantly improved. The significant development here is that the 2025 model is the first 911 to be equipped with a hybrid system that prioritises performance.
With a top speed of 312 mph, the 911 Carrera GTS Coupe can accelerate from zero to hundred miles per hour in just three seconds. Additionally, the 911 Carrera will be readily available as soon as the new model is released. A 3.0-liter twin-turbo boxer engine, slightly updated, provides greater power than the previous model for the automobiles. In addition, the new 911 boasts improved aerodynamics, a redesigned interior, upgraded standard equipment, and increased connectivity.
A recently created electric exhaust gas turbocharger is part of the hybrid system. The turbocharger is powered by an integrated electric motor that is positioned between the turbine wheel and compressor. This raises the boost pressure right away. The exhaust gas turbocharger’s electric motor doubles as a generator. It can produce up to 15 horsepower of electricity. The flow of exhaust gases is where this energy is taken out. Instead of using two turbochargers as before, one may now be used thanks to the wastegate-free electronic turbocharger.
A permanent magnet synchronous motor that is integrated into the eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox is another component of the powertrain. It gives the boxer engine additional drive torque of up to 150 Nm and a power boost of up to 40kW even while it is at idle. Porsche has connected a lightweight, high-voltage battery to both electric motors. It weighs and measures the same as a standard 12V starter battery, but it runs at 400V and can store up to 1.9 kWh of energy (gross).
After all that, the 3.6-liter boxer engine remains the central component of the hybrid drivetrain. The engine is substantially more compact since the high-voltage system enables the air conditioning compressor to be driven electronically, eliminating the need for a belt drive. About 485 horsepower and 570 Nm of torque are produced by the boxer engine even in the absence of electrical support. The system output is around 540bhp and 610Nm overall. It has about 60 horsepower more power than its predecessor.
