It is anticipated that the Humane AI Pin will begin shipping in March. “Those who placed priority orders will receive their Ai Pins first when we begin shipping in March,” the company announced on Twitter on Friday. The wearable gadget with no screen that is meant to take the place of a smartphone was previously estimated by the company to ship in “early 2024.”
Established by Bethany Bongiorno and Imran Chaudhri, two former Apple employees, Humane believes that the smartphone, which is still their former employer’s main source of income, is nearing its end. In a press briefing in November, Chaudhri reportedly stated, “The last era has plateaued,” TechCrunch reported Chaudhri as saying in a November press briefing. He views the AI-powered wearable product as “a new way of thinking, a new sense of opportunity.”
The $699 Humane AI Pin uses a projector to project pertinent information onto the user’s hand in place of a screen. Contextual intelligence and privacy focus are highlighted by the device’s creators, who claim that it “quickly understands what you need, connecting you to the right AI experience or service instantly.” The company states that it has “access to some of the most powerful AI models and platforms in the world” thanks to partnerships with OpenAI, Microsoft, and Tidal.
The pin’s Cosmos OS software is powered by a dedicated Qualcomm AI Engine and is operated by a quad-core Snapdragon processor. There are three color options for shipping, two of which come at an additional $100 cost. In order to use the pin’s cellular data, buyers must pay $24 per month. The pin operates as an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) on top of T-Mobile’s network.
Humane says that the remaining orders will be shipped out in the order that they were received, and they have also provided the shipping date for March. When the company responds to the email Engadget sent asking when it expects current orders to be shipped, we’ll update this article.
On Humane’s website, preorders for the Humane AI Pin are currently being accepted. Equinox (polished chrome on black) and Lunar (polished chrome on white) colorways cost $799 and $699, respectively, while the Eclipse (matt black on black) colorway costs $699.
