Credited as the principal Black female paper manager and distributer in North America and the second Black lady to acquire a law degree in the United States, Shadd Cary is famous as a fearless pioneer in the battle for abrogation and ladies’ testimonial.
Mary Ann Shadd was conceived on this day in 1823 in Wilmington, Delaware. Her folks were devoted abolitionists and utilized their home as a station on the Underground Railroad to give a place of refuge to got away from slaves.
