Nissan, the massive Japanese automaker, is prepared to reintroduce its flagship fourth-generation X-Trail. It is anticipated that this new SUV will go on sale in June or July of this year. According to recent reports, the X-Trail will now only run on petrol. It is said to have a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine as its only powertrain option. When it is released, it will go up against the formidable Toyota Fortuner in the nation.
Nissan only intends to provide one powertrain option for this SUV, according to Autocar India. Unlike the hybrid model displayed in India, the source said that the business is bringing it especially for “petrol aficionados.” This 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine has a power output of 204 horsepower and 305 torque newtons.
Nissan X-Trail to come as a CBU
Regarding the volumes, the business anticipates not selling it in large quantities. They are bringing it as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) as a result. For those who may not know, the Indian government has a policy that permits the homologation of up to 2,500 models annually.
Regarding the other powertrain specifications, the new X-Trail SUV will include a CVT transmission. It’s unclear if an AWD or 2WD system will be installed.
Nissan X-Trail competition in India
When it is introduced in India, it will go up against vehicles like the Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq. The Toyota Fortuner is the market leader in India’s full-size SUV market.
Nissan Magnite facelift is also coming
Nissan is getting ready to refresh its current lineup with the Magnite makeover in addition to the release of the X-Trail. Recently, testing of this approach was observed in Chennai.
Based on the information available, the new Magnite is expected to include a connected light bar, a modified tail lamp and a rear integrated roof spoiler. It will also have larger C-pillars and new alloy wheels.
The interior of the next Nissan Magnite makeover is anticipated to feature a head-up display (HUD) and a larger touchscreen infotainment system. In addition, a sunroof, ventilated seats, an auto-dimming internal rearview mirror (IRVM), and a 360-degree camera are rumoured to be included.
The Magnite’s options for the powertrain won’t alter. The 1.0-liter, three-cylinder normally aspirated petrol engine will still be available for it. This motor generates 96 Nm of torque and 71 horsepower. The same turbocharged version with 99 horsepower and 160 Nm of torque will also be available.
Nissan’s Duster-Based SUV
Additionally, Nissan is actively developing an SUV based on the Duster. It was formerly known as the Terrano. It is unknown, though, what it will be called this time around. It is anticipated to enter the mid-size SUV market and be introduced in India by the end of 2025.
Nissan’s SUV will be built on the same CMF-B chassis as the new Duster. Nissan and Renault have officially declared that the only engine options available for their SUVs will be petrol. Two of these, a 1.3- and 1.0-liter turbocharged engine, will be available.
The latter will generate about 156 horsepower. Lower-end models may have a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that is naturally aspirated. Expected gearbox options include a CVT gearbox and a 6-speed manual.
