With the EV6, Kia began producing purely electric vehicles on a specialised platform back in 2021. The electric crossover made its debut in the nation of origin of the brand after undergoing its first redesign. Subtle exterior design improvements and extensive interior redesigns characterise the Kia EV6 facelift. For increased range, a larger battery pack is also included.
Front
The Kia EV6 is receiving a mid-life cycle upgrade, therefore the design has undergone minor adjustments. The EV6’s slimmer headlamp unit with C-shaped features that harmonise with the newest generation of Kia EV cars replaces the eyebrow-style LED DRLs up front. To give the car an even sportier appearance, angular pieces have also been added to the front bumper and grille.
Side
Alloy wheels are the only alteration to the side profile. 19-inch wheels are standard on the facelifted EV6, with 20-inch wheels available for the premium models. With the facelift, the EV6’s dimensions have remained unchanged, although it is now 20 mm shorter than the variant that is now offered in India.
Rear
The redesigned EV6’s rear end is still the same as that of the original model. It continues to have an attached light bar that runs the length of the EV. For this side of the electric crossover, Kia has kept the edgy, stretched design.
Battery, Range And Performance
With the EV6, Kia has improved the battery pack and made more significant under-the-hood improvements. It now has a battery pack that has 84 kWh, which is 6.6 kWh more than what is required for the Indian market. The following are the specific details:.
Specification | Facelifted Kia EV6 | Old Kia EV6 | ||
Configuration | RWD | AWD | RWD | AWD |
Battery pack | 84 kWh | 84 kWh | 77.4 kWh | 77.4 kWh |
Power | 229 PS | 325 PS | 229 PS | 325 PS |
Torque | 350 Nm | 605 Nm | 350 Nm | 605 Nm |
Claimed Range | Up to 494 km (South Korean government testing) | Up to 461 km (South Korean government testing) | 528 km (WLTP) | 505 km (WLTP) |
They anticipate seeing an increase in the claimed range of the facelifted EV6 with the larger battery pack when it performs under the Worldwide Harmonised Light Test Vehicles Procedure (WLTP). The 350kW DC fast charging capability of the EV6 allowed it to fully charge the battery from 10% to 80% in under 18 minutes.
Interior and features
The EV6’s interior has undergone a more comprehensive upgrade as part of the facelift, which now includes a new curved enclosure for the integrated dual 12.3-inch displays (one for the infotainment system and one for the digital instrument cluster). It also has chunkier controls positioned on the steering wheel and a new two-spoke steering wheel with an offset Kia emblem.
The centre console’s design has also been altered, and in place of the physical key, a fingerprint scanner serves as a biometric key for users who have registered.
In addition, the EV6 now has a digital rearview mirror, AR navigation (on the infotainment screen), wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, OTA software upgrades (which were previously restricted to maps only), and an improved 12-inch heads-up display that displays more information than before.
Safety
The Kia EV6 has 10 airbags, which is two more than the Indian counterpart, for added safety. Additionally, it still has access to all of the previous ADAS functions, such as park assist, forward collision mitigation, and lane change assist.
