In advance of the new Cooper S and Countryman’s release in India, Mini India has started taking reservations. On Mini’s official website, potential customers can make reservations for the same thing online. The fifth-generation Mini Cooper, which debuted in September 2023, is a 3-door hatchback, and the company’s first-ever made-in-Germany car, the Countryman, is offered in third-generation form. The latter is a Mini five-door model.
Despite sharing many visual similarities with the previous generation model, the Mini Cooper S of 2024 boasts wider wheels and a longer wheelbase, which contrast with the car’s low bonnet and short overhangs. The hatch’s redesigned octagonal grille, circular LED headlamps, and movable light signatures that complement the vehicle’s understated external styling define its front end. The 2024 Cooper S has redesigned wheels in profile, and flush door handles. The back features ‘Union Jack’-themed triangular LED tail lamps with movable OLED technology.
Regarding the other product, the third-generation Mini Countryman is approximately 130 mm longer and 60 mm taller than the previous model, with dimensions of 4,433 mm in length, 1,843 mm in width, and 1,656 mm in height. The Mini Countryman crossover has the same octagonal grille, three selectable lighting signatures from the LED daytime running lamps, and updated headlight and taillights as the new Mini Cooper. 20-inch wheels and the revised C-pillar treatment are further features.
New Mini Cooper S, Countryman: Interior, Features
The interior of the new Mini Cooper S and Countryman features a rounded 9.4-inch OLED touchscreen that shows information about navigation, travel, and battery life in addition to a curved dashboard with textile surfaces. Numerous toggle switches for the gear selector and engine start/stop are located beneath the touchscreen. Furthermore, the vehicles are equipped with fisheye in-car cameras, connected car technology, adjustable seats with a massaging feature, and modern driver support systems. The Countryman is the first Mini to support Level 2 ADAS technology.
New Mini Cooper S, Countryman: Powertrain
The next-generation Mini Cooper is offered with a choice of two powertrains: an electric and a petrol one, both in standard and S trim levels. The Mini Cooper’s electric powertrain lineup comprises of the E and SE models. The Cooper SE produces 215 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque and has a driving range of 402 km (WLTP) thanks to a battery capacity of 54.2kWh, while the Cooper E utilises a 40.7kWh battery pack (with a 305km range) and produces 181 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque.
A 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine with 154 horsepower and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 201 horsepower are the two engine options available for the petrol-powered Mini Cooper. The Cooper C provides the former, whereas the Cooper S provides the latter. The 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that powers the global-spec Cooper S is anticipated to be the same for the India-spec model. The Cooper S can speed from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, according to Mini.
The model will arrive at the Countryman as an all-electric avatar. When it arrives, the vehicle probably has a rear-wheel drive system with an electric motor situated in the front (the Countryman E).The top speed of 170 km/h is indicated.
WLTP cycle, the Countryman E has a driving range of 462 km. The battery specs, however, have not yet been made public. Mini offers the two-motor, all-wheel-drive Countryman SE ALL4 in addition to the Countryman E.
Although the exact debut date is unknown, the new Mini Cooper and Countryman should be available this year as fully assembled vehicles. The all-electric Cooper EV will be on sale after the Mini Cooper S with a petrol engine goes on sale. Expect Mini to provide a rear-wheel-drive system for the Countryman.
