Official announcements have been made by Tata Motors on the much awaited debut of the Sierra EV in India in FY2026.
The all-electric SUV is anticipated to be constructed on Tata’s Gen2 EV platform and will include design cues that are evocative of the 1990s Sierra original.
In FY2026, the business plans to introduce its first model under the luxury Avinya brand in addition to the Sierra EV.
Sierra EV: A blend of nostalgia and innovation
A more developed version of the Sierra EV was unveiled at Auto Expo 2023 after it was first shown as a concept during Auto Expo 2020.
Characteristic elements of the original Sierra, such the curved-over rear-side windows, squarish wheel arches, and high-set bonnet, will be carried over into the design of the Sierra EV.
The electric car, like the Punch EV and the future Harrier EV, will be constructed using Tata’s Acti.EV platform.
Avinya range to debut in FY26
A release from Tata Motors, the first Avinya model will be released in FY2026 as well.
A range of automobiles and SUVs under the luxury all-electric Avinya brand will be available.
These cars will be built on the modular EMA platform developed by Jaguar Land Rover; in order to cut costs, this platform will be modified for local manufacturing.
Tata’s new plant in Tamil Nadu will produce the Avinya line.
Tata Motors’s ambitious plans for EV expansion
In addition to introducing new electric vehicles, Tata Motors is working to increase the number of public charging stations.
By FY30, the company wants to have more than 100,000 chargers instead of just over 10,000.
By FY30, the number of chargers in the community charging network will increase from 4,300+ to 100,000.
High-performance electric motors, all-wheel drive, and high energy density batteries with quick charging times are features of the upcoming electric cars.
