Iga Świątek, the tennis winner, is feeling quite happy after winning the French Open, and her day just got better when she got a surprise gift from Taylor Swift.
Świątek, 23, posted a picture of a handwritten message she got from Swift, 34, during the singer’s Liverpool tour stop on X, the platform that was formerly known as Twitter. Świątek is seen holding up the congratulations message in the picture, looking like she’s got tears running down her cheeks while wearing a sweatshirt.
“I’m dead. Yes, I cried many times during the show. Yes, it was incredible. You are amazing @taylorswift13,” The athlete wrote, “You are amazing @taylorswift13,” as the caption for the June 14 social media update on Friday.
Additionally, Świątek shared a video of herself on her Instagram Stories, dancing to Swift’s hits. “…no match dance,” she wrote as the video’s caption, adding a few grinning emojis.
In the French Open final on Saturday, June 8, the rising star of Polish tennis defeated Jasmine Paolini of Italy in two straight sets. She became one of just two female champions in the history of the competition to win three straight French Opens. She is also the youngest person to have won four titles in total, at 23.
Świątek remarked, “It’s amazing to be here, I love this place, honestly,” during the Court Philippe Chatrier awards event. “I wait every year to come back here.”
Świątek made news earlier in the competition when chair umpire Aurélie Tourte overturned a call that had favored her opponent, Coco Gauff, bringing her to tears during their match.
Following the match, in which 20-year-old US Open champion Gauff fell short against Świątek, the American tennis player demanded that video review devices be used by officials at all times throughout matches.
