Following the influx of visitors to the state for the Christmas and New Year holidays, there is extreme traffic congestion on the roads that connect several popular tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh. Drone surveillance was used by the police in the Lahaul and Spiti district to monitor the traffic situation in the area. The video clip depicts car trails clogging the roads and obstructing parking spaces.
An challenging law and order situation has also been brought about in the area by the spike in vehicle traffic prior to the holiday season. The Himachal Pradesh Police issued a challan on Monday for allegedly operating an SUV in Lahaul and Spiti’s Chandra River.

Amidst the gridlock, a number of individuals engaged in dangerous driving manoeuvres that were bothersome. On social media, a video of a man operating his vehicle with the doors open went viral. One of the doors showed the driver hanging precariously. After seeing the video, the Kullu police issued a ₹3,500 fine.
There was a traffic jam on the Manali-Rohtang highway and the routes leading to the Atal Tunnel because of the accumulation of cars. The lack of proper parking and public space was made worse by the sheer number of cars. Local governments are fighting over how to handle the influx of heavy traffic during rush hour.
