Given that the 7-seater Corolla Cross’s introduction appears to have been abandoned, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) looks to be getting ready to introduce up to three new SUVs in India over the course of the next 12 to 18 months. With a range of up to 550 km, a brand-new electric SUV based on the Maruti Suzuki eVX is planned for release in the latter half of 2025. Two further SUVs are anticipated to launch before this electric variant.
With two hybrid SUVs and one electric SUV, the brand hopes to expand its lineup. This section offers an overview of three future SUVs.
1. Toyota Electric SUV:
The design of the Urban SUV concept, which was shown last year, is expected to serve as the inspiration for the first-ever electrified Toyota SUV, which should come in H2 2025. It will be based on the brand’s derivation of the 27PL platform and have many similarities with the Maruti Suzuki eVX. There will be a tonne of features and technologies within, such ADAS.
2. Toyota Fortuner Mild Hybrid:
A 48-volt mild hybrid system is planned for the Toyota Fortuner mild hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) version, which will improve the performance of the car’s current GD series diesel engine. This technique is intended to improve acceleration, reduce emissions, and—most importantly—boost fuel efficiency. There are existing international markets for this system, such as South Africa.
Although the MHEV version of the Fortuner’s launch details are still unknown, there is conjecture that it may happen later this year or in the first quarter of 2025. Toyota recently made the Fortuner Legend variant’s arrival known. This occurs at the same time that the Ford Endeavour, a major rival of the Fortuner, is scheduled to make a repeat trip to India via the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route later this year.
3. 7-Seater Toyota Hyryder:
Early in 2025 is when the seven-seater Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is expected to make its public debut. This new vehicle will go up against rival seven-seater SUVs such as the Hyundai Alcazar, Citroen C3 Aircross (7-seater), Tata Safari, and MG Hector Plus. This forthcoming model will be distinguished from the regular five-seater version by special cosmetic alterations. Under the engine, however, the same 1.5L mild hybrid and 1.5L strong hybrid petrol engines will be used.
