A range of services from Nvidia have been introduced with the aim of enhancing workflow productivity in the healthcare sector.

The 25 microservices, which were unveiled this week at Nvidia’s GTC AI conference, are intended to help hospitals, doctors, and pharmaceutical businesses implement generative AI solutions.

The AI microservices can be run anywhere, in the cloud or on-premises, by researchers and medical professionals. They can be integrated into both new and current applications.

The suite includes tools that could aid in the development of new drugs, improve patient data collection for the purpose of early disease detection, and deploy more intelligent digital assistants.

It gives researchers access to specific AI models like DiffDock, which explains how pharmacological compounds interact with targets, and ESMFold, which predicts protein structures.

Software development kits such as Parabricks, a suite of programs for analyzing DNA sequences, and NeMo, a platform for developing models, are also featured.

Vice President of Health Care at Nvidia Kimberly Powell stated, “For the first time in history, we can represent the world of biology and chemistry in a computer, making computer-aided drug discovery possible,” “By helping health care companies easily build and manage AI solutions, we’re enabling them to harness the full power and potential of generative AI.”

Nearly 50 businesses, including Amgen and the manufacturer of medical imaging software V7, are reportedly already utilizing Nvidia’s health care microservices.

Amgen’s senior vice president and CTO, David M. Reese, stated, “Generative AI is transforming drug discovery by allowing us to build sophisticated models and seamlessly integrate AI into the antibody design process.” “Our team is harnessing this technology to create the next generation of medicines that will bring the most value to patients.”

In response to growing commodity costs and supply chain problems, Kia will increase the price of its Sonet, Seltos, and Carens in India starting on April 1, 2024.

As of April 1, 2024, Kia India has formally declared that it will be raising the pricing of its mass-market-oriented models, including the Sonet, Seltos, and Carens. Prices will increase by 3% as a result of the decision, which is purportedly made in reaction to the Korean manufacturer’s supply chain problems and the growing cost of commodities.

Kia has demonstrated its dedication to its customers by taking on a large chunk of the price rise themselves, in an effort to lessen any significant financial impact. This choice is indicative of Kia’s commitment to provide its customers accessible automobiles. Furthermore, Kia has accomplished remarkable sales numbers, with a combined total of almost 1.16 million vehicles sold in both international and Indian markets.

With sales of almost 613,000 units, its midsize SUV model, the Seltos, is leading the way. The Sonet, with almost 395,000 units sold, and the Carens, with 159,000 units sold, are not far behind. At its Anantapur factory, Kia has built annual production capacity of 300,000 units and started mass production in August 2019.

While Tesla is getting ready to reveal and introduce the Model 2, its first mass-market electric vehicle, other automakers are developing direct rivals.

Although the price of the Tesla Model 2 is anticipated to go below the infamous $25,000 threshold, which would make EVs genuinely cheap.

These are also not your typical “pie in the sky” boardroom ideas. The first vehicle in NIO’s entry-level Firefly brand portfolio has already been spotted in spy photos, where it is camouflaged and appears to be a tall hatchback or small crossover. In addition, NIO is getting ready to launch a direct competitor to Tesla’s best-selling Model Y Juniper, a car whose production costs were lowered by 10%. However, when the firm expands its network of stations to enable quick battery changes, the Firefly brand will have NIO’s major advantage—swappable batteries—despite its lower prices.

Ford, meantime, is creating a smaller crossover based on the Tesla Model 2, which will also be built in the US using LFP batteries. The least expensive Ford EV is expected to retail for about $25,000 as well, although it won’t be available until one year after the Model 2.

Last but not least, the third-largest EV manufacturer in the world is reportedly planning to launch a little electric car in 2027 called the VW ID.1, which will cost $22,000 and be squeezed inside the current Polo’s proportions. Although it may start at roughly $27,000, the larger VW ID.2all with a 280-mile range will come earlier, in 2026.

The Tesla Model 2 will reportedly hit the market a year or two ahead of schedule despite all of this potentially fierce competition, and its price after state or federal tax credit subsidies may even outperform them all.

Elon Musk, meantime, has stated publicly that the Model 2 will represent a “revolution in low-cost manufacturing,” and experts predict that Tesla will produce at least 500,000 of them in 2026 alone. However, BYD, the biggest EV manufacturer in the world, will pose a threat to Tesla as it currently offers a few models in the same low-cost range.

Venus Williams, the seven-time grand slam champion, lost to Diana Shnaider 6-3 6-3 in one hour and nineteen minutes on Tuesday at the Miami Open, with the match cut short by a cat that invaded the court.

During the second set, as Williams was preparing to serve, the cat appeared on the court, causing the audience to laugh out loud.

The umpire said, “There is a cat crossing the court,” which caused further chuckles.

This is the second animal incursion at a tennis tournament in as many weeks, after last Thursday’s Indian Wells quarterfinal between Carlos Alcaraz and Alex Zverev was disrupted by a swarm of bees.

Additionally, this is the second occasion this season that a feline intruder has taken center stage on a tennis court. The first time it happened was when Emma Raducanu was being chased by a ginger cat across the court before her match against Ons Jabeur at the Abu Dhabi Open.

Williams, the oldest player in the draw at 43 years old, was losing to a teenage opponent who was playing in her first-ever Miami Open match despite her record-breaking 22nd participation at the tournament.

The 19-year-old Shnaider made it to another final at the Fifth Third Charleston last week after winning her maiden WTA Tour victory at the Thailand Open at the start of February.

Although Williams had trouble staying consistent throughout the match, she did exhibit brief moments of her previous form in the first and second sets.

The three-time Miami Open champion, meanwhile, has recently struggled with injuries and has only participated in two matches after returning from a seven-month absence.

Williams dropped to world No. 457 after only managing to play four games in 2022 and ten in 2023.

According to the WTA, this was Williams’ 85th match in the Miami Open main event, tying her sister Serena for the tournament record.

In the second round, Shnaider will now take on Madison Keys, the 17th seed.

Bugs are having a rough day. Just a few hours after Sentry unveiled its AI Autofix tool for debugging production code earlier today, GitHub is releasing the first beta of its code-scanning autofix function, which finds and fixes security flaws in code as it’s being written. This new service combines the company’s semantic code analysis engine, CodeQL, with the real-time capabilities of GitHub’s Copilot. In November of last year, the business gave a glimpse of this feature.

More than two-thirds of the vulnerabilities that this new technology discovers, according to GitHub, can be fixed, frequently without the developers needing to make any code edits. Additionally, the business guarantees that code scanning autofix, which is presently supported by JavaScript, Typescript, Java, and Python, will cover over 90% of alert kinds in those languages.

All users of GitHub Advanced Security (GHAS) can now access this new functionality.

In today’s release, GitHub states that “Just as GitHub Copilot relieves developers of tedious and repetitive tasks, code scanning autofix will help development teams reclaim time formerly spent on remediation,”  “Security teams will also benefit from a reduced volume of everyday vulnerabilities, so they can focus on strategies to protect the business while keeping up with an accelerated pace of development.”

This new technology finds vulnerabilities in code even before it is executed by using GitHub’s semantic analysis engine, CodeQL, in the background. Following the acquisition of the code analysis firm Semmle, where CodeQL was initially developed, the company released the first generation of CodeQL to the public in late 2019.

CodeQL saw many advancements over the years, but one thing remained constant: only scholars and open-source developers could use CodeQL for free.

GitHub states that this new tool’s core is CodeQL, but it also makes use of “a combination of heuristics and GitHub Copilot APIs” to recommend improvements. GitHub use the GPT-4 model from OpenAI to provide the patches and associated descriptions. Furthermore, GitHub acknowledges that “a small percentage of suggested fixes will reflect a significant misunderstanding of the codebase or the vulnerability,” yet being plainly confident enough to suggest that the vast majority of autofix suggestions will be correct.

Disney launched its newest cruise ship, the Disney Destiny, on Wednesday, so fans can soon set out on a new journey.

The launch of Disney Destiny is scheduled for 2025. The teams will be working diligently to build and design the ship, which will have a “Heroes and Villains” theme, until then. Disney stories, with their “opposing forces of light and dark,” are known for their “dynamic duality,” which served as an inspiration for the designers.

Upon completion of the ship, visitors will have the opportunity to engage with heroes and villains from films such as “The Lion King,” “Hercules,” and “One Hundred and One Dalmatians.” In keeping with that theme, there will be new filigree artwork on the ship’s bow that depicts a brave Minnie Mouse with a flowing cape.

Disneyland could get an Avatar-themed park.

According to a statement from Sharon Siskie, executive vice president and general manager of Disney Cruise Line, “The Disney Destiny will celebrate our most legendary Disney stories and characters, bringing them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests.”

“As we continue to expand our fleet, the Disney Destiny will further strengthen our position as a leader in family cruising as we offer even more ways for families to experience Disney magic and world-class service at sea.”

According to a press release, Minnie Mouse will also be seen on the ship’s bow “striking a valiant pose in a heroic ensemble as her cape waves waving majestically in the sea breeze.”

Disney Wish, which made its premiere in 2022, and Disney Treasure, which is slated to sail the seven seas in December, will be followed by Disney Destiny as the third ship in the DCL’s Wish class.

Disney had earlier declared that it would put aside $12 billion to finance the purchase of additional cruise ships, increasing the company’s fleet from five to eight.

NASA successfully demonstrated that, if necessary, it would be feasible to adjust the course of a celestial object headed towards Earth and potentially escape a catastrophic catastrophe when it launched its “DART” spacecraft to collide into an asteroid in 2022.

Scientists revealed on Tuesday that the deliberate impact not only altered the Dimorphos asteroid’s trajectory but also altered its shape.

Dimorphos was characterized by NASA as a “roughly symmetrical oblate spheroid” prior to the collision. Alternatively put, “like a squashed ball that is wider than it is tall.”

After the collision, it was now described as more akin to a “triaxial ellipsoid” or a “oblong watermelon.”

How May the Form of An Asteroid Change?

How may the form of an asteroid change?

Steve Chesley, a co-author of the study published in The Planetary Science Journal and senior research scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California, believes that the composition of the asteroid is the explanation behind this.

“The prevailing understanding is that Dimorphos is a loosely packed agglomeration of debris ranging from dust to gravel to boulders,” he said. “Thus, its global strength is quite low, allowing deformation much more easily than for a solid monolithic body.”

About 11 million kilometers (6.8 million miles) from Earth, Dimorphos is actually a moonlet in orbit around Didymos, a “near Earth asteroid”.

Prior to September 26, 2022, at 22,530 kilometers per hour, Dimorphos would collide with the DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) probe.

Dimorphos would take 11 hours and 55 minutes to make one orbit around Didymos before crashing into the DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) spacecraft on September 26, 2022, at a speed of 22,530 kilometers per hour. That’s now down to thirty-three minutes and fifteen seconds.

Lead author Shantanu Naidu of JPL, a navigation engineer, said, “By measuring the pre- and post-impact orbit of Dimorphos, we were able to deduce the change in the shape,” He added, “The shape change was so dramatic because of its rubble-pile composition.”

How Were The Changes Measured by NASA?

In order to infer what had happened to the asteroid after impact, the researchers said they used three data sources in their computer models: images taken by DART itself as it approached Dimorphos, data from radio waves bouncing off the asteroids, and measurements from ground-based telescopes measuring how sunlight reflected off the surfaces of the two asteroids changed over time.

Chesley said, “We never expected to get this kind of accuracy.”

The Hera mission, scheduled for flight in October by the European Space Agency (ESA), is expected to arrive at the two asteroids in late 2026 and provide an update on the condition. It is not meant to collide with either object.

“We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of ESA’s Hera spacecraft, when we will be able to compare our modeled shape with that obtained from Hera imagery. We will also learn how much the orbit has changed since we last observed it in 2023,”  stated Chesley.

In reality, neither Didymos nor Dimorphos—whether shaped like an egg or a watermelon—were a threat to Earth.
