Up to nine new models from luxury automakers, including Mercedes, Audi, BMW, and MINI, will go on sale in India this year.

These will include all-new cars and SUVs as well as improvements to current models.

A generational upgrade for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the Maybach EQS SUV, the GLC Coupe, and a makeover for the GLB are among the expected releases.

New variants of the Audi Q6 e-tron, the electric MINI Countryman and Cooper, the BMW 5 Series, and the facelifted Audi Q8 will also be available.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class will arrive in a long-wheelbase format

Compared to the previous model, the redesigned Mercedes-Benz E-Class will measure 15 mm longer, 20 mm wider, and 17 mm longer.

The 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo-petrol, 2.0-liter, four-cylinder diesel, and 3.0-liter in-line, six-cylinder diesel engines found in the outgoing model are anticipated to be among the available engine options.

This next generation will only be available with a long wheelbase.

Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV coming soon

Mercedes will also debut the “680” version of its all-electric Maybach EQS SUV, which has a 108.4kWh battery, two electric motors that combined produce 950Nm and 658hp, and a range of up to 600km. The estimated prices are ₹4 crore.

Mercedes Benz GLC Coupe, GLB facelift also on the horizon

It is anticipated that the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and the GLC SUV will have similar powertrain choices. The GLC Coupe has a sharper roofline and a lower tailboard than the SUV.

In addition, as part of Mercedes’s 12-car launch makeover, the Mercedes Benz GLB facelift is scheduled for sale.

While the 4MATIC all-wheel drive technology and the gasoline and diesel engines will remain, cosmetic adjustments and infotainment system tweaks are anticipated. Most likely, costs won’t exceed ₹70 lakh.

BMW 5 Series set to launch this festive season

This holiday season in India, the BMW 5 Series is also scheduled to debut. Unlike its electric predecessor, the i5, which has a conventional wheelbase option, this eighth-generation model will only be available with a long wheelbase.

Audi Q6 e-tron to arrive by 2024-end

Audi is getting ready to introduce the Q6 e-tron, the company’s first car to be constructed on the PPE platform. Arriving by year-end, this electric SUV is anticipated to have two-wheel drive and an 83kWh battery pack.

It is anticipated that the Q6 e-tron will cost between ₹70 lakh and ₹80 lakh.

The Audi Q8 facelift, which debuted globally last September and has minor changes and new amenities over the outgoing model, will also soon be available in India.

MINI Countryman and Cooper Electric set for Indian market

After making its worldwide debut in September of last year, the third-generation MINI Countryman is on its way to India.

In other markets, the subcompact SUV will come with an all-electric drivetrain and three petrol engine options. There will be some cosmetic enhancements as well.

In addition, the third quarter will see the release of the new MINI Cooper electric. Constructed on a specialised electric vehicle architecture, the Cooper E and Cooper SE are its two global variations.

It’s unclear if MINI will release both versions in India.

Microsoft has released “Recall,” a new AI-powered feature for Windows 11 that records and indexes every action a user takes on a computer to make it easier to search through past actions using natural language queries. Recall functions similarly to a digital photo memory, allowing users to go through a timeline of former images to retrieve previous material from any program, website, or document.

A Copilot+ PC with a 40 TOPs NPU, a Snapdragon X CPU, 16GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage are needed in order to run Recall. Periodically, the functionality takes screenshots of windows that are open, assembling them into a semantic index that can be queryed with natural language. Text, photos, and URLs are all included in this index, enabling interactive information retrieval.

Even when shared with other users on the same device, the Bitlocker-encrypted snapshots linked to the user’s account stay local. Microsoft highlights that users maintain complete control over what Recall records and that data is stored locally on the device rather than in the cloud. They have the ability to stop recording, remove pictures, change time intervals, and prevent certain apps and websites from being saved. By default, the functionality blocks DRM-protected content and content from Microsoft Edge’s InPrivate windows.

English, Chinese (simplified), French, German, Japanese, and Spanish will be the first languages supported by Recall when it launches in June. Other languages will be supported later. Recall offers customers privacy and control, as highlighted by Yusuf Mehdi from Microsoft. customers may control the recording process directly from the Taskbar’s System Tray by adjusting its settings. Microsoft has also admitted that Recall does not moderate content, which could result in the collection of private data like banking account information and login credentials.

In the final 13 seconds of Friday night’s Game 2 of the Western Conference playoffs, Dallas coach Jason Kidd called his finest play while the Mavericks were down two points.

“The play was to get Luka the ball and let Luka do what he does in those moments,” Kidd stated.

Doncic’s step-back three over four-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert sealed a remarkable comeback from an 18-point hole and gave the Mavs a 109-108 victory and a 2-0 series lead against the Minnesota Timberwolves as the series moves to Dallas.

A few steps beyond the half-court line, Doncic received the inbounds pass and was set up for a screen by rookie center Dereck Lively II. According to ESPN Stats & Information, Gobert and Jaden McDaniels switched, something that Gobert had only done once in the 19 ball screens he had defended throughout the game. For the Mavs, seeing the 7-foot-1 Gobert isolated against the league’s top scorer forty feet from the hoop was a welcome surprise.

Mavs player Kyrie Irving stated, “It was just time to get ready for the magic to happen.”

Doncic advanced to the top of the 3-point arc while dribbling. He moved from left to right, forcing Gobert to commit a bit too much, then dribbled between his legs in the opposite direction before taking a quick step in the direction of the hoop to put the big man for the Wolves on his heels. Then, instead of taking his usual step to his left to execute his signature shot, Doncic took a step back toward his right and dribbled over Gobert’s extended right arm.

There were 3.0 seconds left when the ball shattered through the net.

Doncic stated, “I just saw some space and decided to shoot a 3,” following the Mavs’ third-largest comeback in team playoff history. “Get to my spot, step back. That’s it.”

Doncic’s game-winning 3-pointer in the last five seconds of a playoff game was his second in his career. During the play-by-play era, which spanned from 1997 to 1998, he joined LeBron James, Damian Lillard, Reggie Miller, and Robert Horry as the only players who can make that claim. Game 4 of Doncic’s first NBA playoff series during the 2020 bubble saw him make a step-back three at the buzzer, going left from his go-to place on the left wing.

Kidd remarked, “As you’ve seen, he loves that stage.” “He doesn’t run from it. He made a big shot. … Luka is special. He loves those type of moments.”

Irving continued, “He’s prepared for these moments, and he’s built for these moments. So things like that happen. I’m not surprised, but as a brother, I’m just nothing short of proud. He took us home tonight, man.”

As the Target Center audience became silent, Doncic toasted the occasion by yelling disparaging remarks about Gobert. It took little effort to read his lips.

“You can’t f—ing guard me!” Even if he mockingly denied it after the game, Doncic obviously yelled at times.

Doncic denied saying anything like that. “I was speaking Slovenian.”

Although Gobert claimed not to have seen or heard Doncic yelling at him, he was unsurprised by the message.

Goberta remarked, “He says that every game, so nothing new.”

Like his game-winning shot, Doncic’s point was amply supported by their past. Second Spectrum reports that during his career, Doncic is 8 of 11 when making 3-pointers with Gobert as the nearest defender. This includes going 4-for-5 in postseason play, going all the way back to the Mavs’ 2022 playoff series opener against the Utah Jazz, which turned out to be Gobert’s last series with his original team.

In this case, Gobert was able to get what could be regarded as a respectable contest in spite of Doncic’s impressive ballhandling display and numerous direction changes.

Gobert stated, “It is for a regular NBA player.” “For Luka, it wasn’t good enough.”

In the last seconds of the game, Minnesota had a chance to win. Right winger Naz Reid, the Sixth Man of the Year, missed his 3-point shot from the field after it bounced off the back iron. Reid led Minnesota with 23 points. In the contest, he had connected on seven of his previous eight 3-point tries.

Doncic stated, “I almost passed out.” “That was looking too good.”

Once more, the two All-Stars for the Wolves, Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns, had poor nights. Together, they only scored 36 points on 9 of 33 shots. In the fourth quarter, Edwards also made two costly mistakes: he threw the ball out of bounds on the possession right before Doncic’s game-winning basket, which came about because Lively switched onto Edwards in an isolation play to keep him from making a jumper.

Despite having 16 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals, and a block, Gobert held himself responsible for the defeat at home.

Gobert remarked, “On that last play, I let my team down.” “They believed in me to get a stop and he scored. And he scored a 3, which is something that he does very well. So, I’m definitely taking that responsibility that I need to be better in that situation.”

Edwards, on the other hand, voiced optimism that the Wolves may rally to win the series. He cited their tenacity in the previous round, when they overcame three straight losses to defeat the Denver Nuggets, the defending champion, in seven games.

The West finals began with two home losses for Edwards, who averaged 20 points on 33.3% shooting. “We was up 2-0, then they came and won two at the crib and then won one at the crib,” Edwards recalled. “So we’ve been here before. I don’t think anybody in the locker room is panicking. I hope not. Just come out and play our brand of basketball.”

Dallas prevailed in Game 2 despite challenging circumstances. Since the middle of the first round, Doncic has been playing with an injured right knee. On Friday night, during his breaks in the last minutes of the first and third quarters, he went to the locker room to receive treatment. Midway in the third quarter, Dallas was still trailing by double digits and had to work its way back from an 18-point deficit.

“Like I always say, stay together, positive energy,” stated Doncic. “We believed until the end.”

Notwithstanding a “stable” leak in the spacecraft’s propulsion system, Boeing and NASA are still proceeding with the launch of the Starliner capsule, which is scheduled to transport American astronauts for the first time.

During a news conference on Friday, Mark Nappi, vice president of Boeing and head of the company’s Commercial Crew program, stated, “We are comfortable with the causes that we’ve identified for this specific leak.”

Nappi continued, “We know we can manage this [leak], so this is really not a safety of flight issue,”

As of right now, Boeing plans to launch their spacecraft with a crew on June 1; backup dates are June 2, June 5, and June 6.

The goal of the Starliner Crew Flight Test is to transport two NASA astronauts to and from the International Space Station prior to conducting normal missions, which will serve as the capsule’s last significant development test.

The launch of Starliner’s crew has been postponed for years because SpaceX has been using its Dragon capsule to regularly transport humans for NASA since 2020 as part of the agency’s Commercial Crew program. Due to Starliner difficulties, Boeing has already had to forgo $1.5 billion in costs, on top of almost $5 billion in NASA development money.

Two hours before liftoff on May 6, NASA and Boeing decided to cancel the launch attempt because of a problem they had discovered with the Atlas V rocket that will carry Starliner into orbit. Boeing and Lockheed Martin jointly own United Launch Alliance (ULA), which is responsible for the construction and management of Atlas V.

A ULA representative stated at the press briefing on Friday that the rocket’s malfunctioning valve was changed a week after the launch was rescheduled.

However, a “small” helium leak with Starliner was discovered after the launch attempt was canceled, prompting Boeing and NASA to start fresh evaluations of the capsule and its suitability for the trip. One of NASA’s highest ranking officials, Associate Administrator Ken Bowersox, told the media on Friday that “it’s taken a while for us to be ready to discuss” the helium leak issue.

“It’s so complicated. There’s so many things going on. We really just needed to work through it as a team,” said Bowersox.

Following investigation, NASA and Boeing have determined that a seal in one of the flanges of the spacecraft’s helium propulsion system is the source of the leak. Teams “have seen that the leak rate isn’t changing,” according to NASA’s Commercial Crew Program manager Steve Stich, following the May 6 postponement.

According to Stich, the strategy is to keep an eye on the leak before launch and reevaluate the amount of leakage after the spacecraft reaches the International Space Station.

Stich stated, “We don’t expect the other [seals] to leak, and I think that’s a confidence that we have,”

Additionally, Stich highlighted that NASA had previously “flown vehicles with small helium leaks,” citing “a couple of cases” from Space Shuttle and SpaceX’s Dragon flights.

On May 29, NASA, Boeing, and ULA will review the leak once more. For the June 1 attempt, they want to roll the rocket and capsule out to the launch pad on May 30.

Nissan, the massive Japanese automaker, is prepared to reintroduce its flagship fourth-generation X-Trail. It is anticipated that this new SUV will go on sale in June or July of this year. According to recent reports, the X-Trail will now only run on petrol. It is said to have a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine as its only powertrain option. When it is released, it will go up against the formidable Toyota Fortuner in the nation.

Nissan only intends to provide one powertrain option for this SUV, according to Autocar India. Unlike the hybrid model displayed in India, the source said that the business is bringing it especially for “petrol aficionados.” This 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine has a power output of 204 horsepower and 305 torque newtons.

Nissan X-Trail to come as a CBU

Regarding the volumes, the business anticipates not selling it in large quantities. They are bringing it as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) as a result. For those who may not know, the Indian government has a policy that permits the homologation of up to 2,500 models annually.

Regarding the other powertrain specifications, the new X-Trail SUV will include a CVT transmission. It’s unclear if an AWD or 2WD system will be installed.

Nissan X-Trail competition in India

When it is introduced in India, it will go up against vehicles like the Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq. The Toyota Fortuner is the market leader in India’s full-size SUV market.

Nissan Magnite facelift is also coming

Nissan is getting ready to refresh its current lineup with the Magnite makeover in addition to the release of the X-Trail. Recently, testing of this approach was observed in Chennai.

Based on the information available, the new Magnite is expected to include a connected light bar, a modified tail lamp and a rear integrated roof spoiler. It will also have larger C-pillars and new alloy wheels.

The interior of the next Nissan Magnite makeover is anticipated to feature a head-up display (HUD) and a larger touchscreen infotainment system. In addition, a sunroof, ventilated seats, an auto-dimming internal rearview mirror (IRVM), and a 360-degree camera are rumoured to be included.

The Magnite’s options for the powertrain won’t alter. The 1.0-liter, three-cylinder normally aspirated petrol engine will still be available for it. This motor generates 96 Nm of torque and 71 horsepower. The same turbocharged version with 99 horsepower and 160 Nm of torque will also be available.

Nissan’s Duster-Based SUV

Additionally, Nissan is actively developing an SUV based on the Duster. It was formerly known as the Terrano. It is unknown, though, what it will be called this time around. It is anticipated to enter the mid-size SUV market and be introduced in India by the end of 2025.

Nissan’s SUV will be built on the same CMF-B chassis as the new Duster. Nissan and Renault have officially declared that the only engine options available for their SUVs will be petrol. Two of these, a 1.3- and 1.0-liter turbocharged engine, will be available.

The latter will generate about 156 horsepower. Lower-end models may have a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that is naturally aspirated. Expected gearbox options include a CVT gearbox and a 6-speed manual.

To commemorate the first science publication derived from the telescope’s early release observations, breathtaking new photographs captured by the Euclid space telescope showcase an astounding variety of celestial vistas.

Launched last year, the European Space Agency project seeks to unravel the mysteries surrounding dark matter and dark energy, two components that make up the majority of the known universe but are mainly unknown due to their difficulty to study. Because dark matter does not interact with light, scientists are unable to directly witness it, but they can infer its existence from its gravitational effects, for example.

The answer is in utilizing a highly sensitive instrument such as Euclid to observe far-off galaxies and determine the impact of dark matter on them. The Euclid project scientists of the European Space Agency, Valeria Pettorino and René Laureijs, stated, “We have to accurately measure the shapes of over 1.5 billion distant galaxies.” However, these galaxies can be small and dim, and the atmosphere of Earth blurs them when viewed from Earth. Euclid has less interference while detecting and measuring these galaxies because it is positioned above the atmosphere in space.

As a result, photos obtained from spacecraft display an exceptional degree of detail across a vast swath of the sky, and are four times sharper than those obtained from ground-based telescopes. They display things such as galaxy clusters, star-forming areas, and the huge neighboring spiral galaxy known as NGC 6744 using data from a mere twenty-four-hour observation period.

In addition to providing meticulous measurements of galaxies for the study of dark matter, the telescope will yield information on other celestial objects. “We will be able to also search for objects that were very difficult to detect before Euclid such as free floating planets, ultra-cold stars, brown dwarfs, galaxies with very low surface brightness or very high redshift quasar populations,”  stated Pettorino and Laureijs. “Euclid may also reveal new objects which have never been observed before.”

The universe will be examined for things such as “rogue” or free-floating planets—planets that travel the cosmos by themselves rather than circling stars—in stellar nurseries like Messier 78. These rogue planets, estimated to number in the trillions, are thought to exist in our galaxy, but studying them is challenging because they frequently interact with no surrounding objects. Euclid allows for the observation of rogue planets as small as four times the size of Jupiter, which is enormous when compared to the planets in our solar system but minuscule when compared to stars.

Euclid will also be able to observe entire clusters of galaxies, such as the almost 50,000-galaxies-strong Abell 2390 cluster, at the opposite extreme of the mass scale. Because these clusters are so enormous, they distort light from distant galaxies, causing them to seem as a distorted shape like an arc or disk. This phenomenon is known as gravitational lensing. Because the mass and lensing effect increase with the amount of dark matter in a cluster, researchers are able to examine the amount of dark matter existing in the cluster.

Pettorino and Laureijs stated that the initial photographs from Euclid had surpassed their expectations, as data from a single day’s worth of observations have already shown millions of distinct objects. Euclid will examine a third of the sky over the following six years, allowing it to uncover even more of the cosmos.

Pettorino and Laureijs declared, “This is the start of an extraordinary journey towards a fundamental understanding of the Universe we live in,”
