Scientists have found a planet about the size of Earth that is constantly exposed to radiation; its atmosphere has long since corroded away, leaving it bare. While astronomers are not interested in life as we know it because they might be able to study the geology of a planet outside our solar system for the first time, life as we know it cannot live on this scorching planet.
SPECULOOS-3 b, the newly discovered exoplanet, is a rocky planet located around 55 light-years away from Earth. “Life as we know it could not emerge on the surface of the planet—atmosphere or not—because it could not sustain large amounts of water in liquid form,” said Michaël Gillon, the primary author of the study and an astronomer at the University of Liège in Belgium, to Live Science. “It is a bare rock planet like Mercury.”
The researchers stated that although though SPECULOOS-3 b is uninhabitable by life, it is sufficiently close to Earth to allow for in-depth investigations on its chemical composition, which could determine whether the planet was ever geologically active.

A helium leak in the spacecraft’s propulsion system has forced NASA and Boeing to postpone the company’s CST-100 Starliner’s first crewed mission once more.
NASA said in a statement late on May 17 that the Crew Flight Test (CFT) mission, which was originally slated for May 21, has been rescheduled to no sooner than May 25 at 3:09 p.m. Eastern in order to continue work on a leak in the spacecraft’s helium pressurization system.
The most recent postponement occurred three days after NASA and Boeing announced that they would be postponing the launch, which was originally planned for May 17, in order to fix a thruster in the spacecraft’s service module that was leaking helium. At the time, Boeing stated that it was trying to better characterize the leak and build a flight justification to fly the system as-is without repairing the flange. Mahindra to launch 16 new SUVs by 2030
By 2030, Mahindra plans to introduce up to 16 new SUVs into the passenger car market. Nine vehicles with combustion engines and seven with all-electric propulsion are included in this.
