- BFGoodrich has announced the All-Terrain T/A KO3 tire as the successor to the legendary KO2.
- As things currently stand, the new KO3 is factory-equipped on the new Ford Ranger Raptor and certain versions of the Chevy Silverado 2500HD and GMC Sierra 2500HD.
- This month, BFG will launch 13 sizes of the KO3 before adding over 100 more sizes over the next two years.
For those who enjoy off-roading and overlanding, a new age is beginning. The BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 tyre, which replaces the venerable KO2, was just revealed.
The KO3 is the third iteration of BFG’s All-Terrain T/A KO series, as indicated by the numbering; KO stands for “key off road.” After the first KO was introduced ten years ago, the KO2 has gained popularity among off-road enthusiasts and been installed on numerous trucks and SUVs that are used on trails. BFG is now introducing the KO3 to expand upon the excellent performance of the KO2.
“We’ve done a lot of racing and research in the 10 years since we launched the KO2 tire, so a decade of data, feedback, technology, and experience went into the development of the KO3 tire,” explained BFGoodrich Global General Manager Harold Phillips. “We are our own competition, and we knew it was time to take the all-terrain tire to another level. It will be exciting to see what consumers will do—at work and at play—with the KO3 tire.”
According to BFG, the KO3 improves wear performance, durability on gravel roads, and snow grip while preserving the strong sidewall and loose-surface traction of the original tyre. The KO3 boasts improved durability on gravel roads thanks to a new tread compound that is placed in a distinctive pattern.
The “Mud-Phobic Bars” and serrated shoulder have been upgraded to supposedly function better in mud and snow. The KO3 receives the same severe-snow classification as the original tyre, which is Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake. Presently, the 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor and certain 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500HD and 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD models come standard with the KO3 system.
For the new tyre, BFG will introduce more than 100 sizes over the course of two years, beginning with 13 in May, followed by 17 in August, five in October and more than 50 in 2025. TireRack currently has the K03 in sizes LT285/70R-17 and LT275/65R-20 available.
