The “Giga Laboratory” retail concept that Tesla has unveiled appears to demonstrate its manufacturing capabilities.
The automaker has, in practice, continued to heavily rely on retail locations as part of its marketing effort, despite the fact that it announced in 2019 that it would return to physical retail and move to online sales.
As a matter of fact, Tesla’s number of physical locations (retail and service) has dramatically increased to now 1,000 locations around the work over the last 3 years.
In highly competitive markets for electric vehicles like China, Tesla’s retail locations are especially important.
The Tesla Giga Laboratory is a brand-new retail concept that the automaker is currently testing in China.
The following statement was made by Tesla on its official Weibo account:
“The country’s first “Tesla GIGA Laboratory” made a stunning debut. Tesla’s “Most Beautiful Store in Chengdu” unveiled the mystery: An immersive experience of the magic of “building a car in 45 seconds”. Meet up with friends “Chat and take a break”.”
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has maintained for a number of years that the company is primarily a manufacturing one.
This new retail experience, which appears to be designed to showcase Tesla’s manufacturing technology, seems to be trying to include that now.
It also shows off some of the technology behind its powertrain and drivetrain.
