The significant upgrades to Cybertruck charging that Tesla first announced in April are about to be implemented.
Following some concerns over the Cybertruck’s Supercharger compatibility, which Out of Spec found during the Ocean to Ocean challenge, Tesla announced that it would implement a number of changes to guarantee sufficient and secure charging for the all-electric vehicle.
The Cybertruck would sometimes exceed a site’s power limit and the charging connections would overheat, which led to the upgrades. The pickup travelled from the West Coast to the East Coast of the United States, and this resulted in issues with multiple stops along the way.
When the Cybertruk was at a low state of charge (SoC), the current was weak, which resulted in these problems. Tesla promised to fix the problems with an Over-the-Air update later in Q2.
But with less than two weeks remaining in the quarter, Tesla has a limited window of opportunity to fulfil that wish and stay on track.
According to Cybertruck Lead Engineer Wes Morrill, the update appears to be on the way. He explained that it is “coming soon.”
The Cybertruck charging curve, which allowed the car to “unlock up to 154 miles recovered in 15 minutes,” was the source of the problems. The Cybertruck had a flaw that would limit the stall at 100A.
This seems to be one of the many growing pains that Tesla has experienced since introducing and delivering the Cybertruck to consumers for the first time back in November. Naturally, some problems were going to arise early on, and the manufacturer is releasing patches for these problems as soon as they are ready to be fixed.
