America’s best-selling automobile, when pickup trucks and SUVs are excluded, is the Toyota Camry. Because of its legendary dependability, the Camry has always been incredibly popular. Toyota sold over 290,000 of them in the previous year. While the eighth-generation Camry will be discontinued in 2024, Hyundai redesigned the Sonata, the Camry’s rival, for 2024 with improved technology, new interior design, and all-wheel drive.
The 2024 Hyundai Sonata and 2024 Toyota Camry are comparable in terms of pricing, safety, baggage capacity, interior features, engines, and fuel efficiency.
Performance And Capability
A 2.5-liter naturally aspirated inline-4-cylinder DOHC D-4S injection engine with variable valve timing (VVT) is the standard engine available for the 2024 Toyota Camry. With a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 engine, the 2024 Camry V6 is a more potent model. There is an 8-speed automatic gearbox paired with these two engines. The base 2.5-liter naturally aspirated Smartstream G2.5 engine, which is divided into four cylinders, powers the 2024 Hyundai Sonata. The same G2.5 engine with a turbocharger is used in the performance-focused Sonata N-Line model, which provides greater power. An 8-speed twin-clutch automatic gearbox with more speed and smoothness is used in the Sonata N-Line variant. The regular Sonata, however, has an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

The Sonata’s standard 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine is rated for 190 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the Sonata N-Line’s turbocharged engine generates 311 lb-ft of torque and 290 horsepower. Power is not the only improvement Hyundai provides, though. Along with N-Line-branded interior décor, the Sonata N-Line also has larger 19-inch wheels, a quicker steering rack, and a sport-tuned suspension for improved handling.

Eco, Normal, and Sport are the three driving modes available for all Camry models, regardless of whether they are 2.5-liter or 3.5-liter V6 variants. The more potent V6 Camry is only available with front-wheel drive, although the standard engine can be had with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Four drive modes are also available on the Sonata: Normal, Sport, Smart, and Custom. The Sonata’s standard normally aspirated engine comes with front-wheel drive as standard, with all-wheel drive being an optional feature. Nevertheless, the Sonata N-Line is only offered with front-wheel drive, just like the Camry V6.
Fuel Economy
Toyota provides the 2.5-liter engine for the Camry in a range of performance configurations. The most efficient sedan is the front-wheel-drive base model, which is also the lightest. With an EPA rating of 28 MPG in the city and 39 MPG on the highway, the gasoline-only Camry may get up to 32 MPG overall. The most efficient Sonata model is the 2.5-liter FWD naturally aspirated engine. With a 25 MPG city and 37 MPG highway rating, the Sonata has an EPA combined rating of 29 MPG.

Interior Design And Technology
Although the Toyota Camry’s interior is not overly opulent, the extensive use of soft touch materials gives the impression that it is. There is a surprising amount of room for both the front and rear seats in the roomy cabin. Although the driver sits low, it still has excellent outward sight, and the 360-degree camera that is offered enhances it even further. Although the dash appears peculiar, it is actually quite simple. Because of this, moving about and doing tasks while moving is very simple. The switches and buttons have clear labels and are arranged ergonomically.
The Sonata has enough of space for both the front seats and the back legs. The steering wheel and driver’s seat may be adjusted to a comfortable level, making it simple to get into a decent driving posture. The various switches, buttons, and knobs are simple to operate thanks to the centre console’s simple layout and dash design. There is excellent visibility out the front and sides. However, the limited rear window opening and hefty rear pillars mostly block rear visibility.
Camry Vs. Sonata Technology Comparison
A 7-inch infotainment touchscreen featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard on the 2024 Camry. The higher-end Camry models come equipped with an enhanced driver information display, a wireless charging pad, heated front seats, and a larger 9-inch information touchscreen.
A 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is included on the base 2024 Sonata SEL model. Additionally offered as standard are a driver’s digital gauge cluster and a six-speaker sound system. With GPS, a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system, voice recognition, Hyundai’s BlueLink linked features, and a wireless smartphone charger, the Sonata N-Line trim level enhances the basic equipment.
Interior Room And Cargo Capacity
Both the Hyundai Sonata and the Toyota Camry have a large trunk for mid-size sedans. The 2024 Hyundai Sonata boasts a marginally larger 15.9 cu ft trunk than the 2024 Toyota Camry, with 15.1 cu ft available for storage.

Safety And Reliability
The Camry received an excellent overall rating from the IIHS after its crash testing. The Toyota Camry’s crashworthiness has not yet been fully assessed by the NHTSA. The IIHS has not conducted any testing on the new Hyundai Sonata. The seventh-generation model and the 2024 Sonata share the same platform. Following its most recent crash test of the 2023 Sonata, the IIHS awarded the Top Safety Pick (2024) award and the 2024 model the same good overall safety evaluation.
