After winning its second MotorTrend award of 2023, Chevrolet now has more awards in its trophy case. In addition to the Chevrolet Blazer EV, which is currently the 2024 SUV of the Year, the Chevrolet Colorado midsize pickup was chosen the MotorTrend 2024 Truck of the Year this time around.
The Colorado won its prize by defeating six formidable rivals. The Colorado easily satisfied each of the six criteria that MotorTrend’s editors use to evaluate and award candidates: advancement in design, engineering quality, performance of intended purpose, safety, value, and efficiency.
Editors were particularly pleased with the Colorado’s off-road performance. The 2023 model year saw a significant redesign of the vehicle with an emphasis on all-terrain design, performance features, and technologies. There are three models specifically designed for off-road use: the Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2. Additionally, a wider track and an upgraded chassis are beneficial even for Colorado models that aren’t intended for off-roading.
With its suspension lift, Multimatic spool-valve shocks, locking differentials, durable tyres, and an off-road performance software integrated into the display screen, the ZR2 epitomises Colorado all-terrain performance.
According to Ed Loh, head of editorial for MotorTrend Group, “the Colorado lineup’s performance on- and off-road, particularly the ZR2’s prowess, is nothing short of exceptional, rivalling even some of the most revered off-road vehicles available.” “Winning Truck of the Year from MotorTrend is evidence of the Colorado’s all-around excellence in a variety of terrains and utility needs.”
The Colorado offers a high degree of usefulness with 7,700 pounds of maximum towing capacity and features like cargo tie-downs, corner bed steps and the optional StowFlex tailboard storage compartment, claims MotorTrend. MotorTrend also cited the Colorado’s well-balanced design, interior features reminiscent of a Camaro, and an extensive array of standard Chevy Safety Assist systems.
