Earlier this week, Apple announced tvOS 17, which includes FaceTime and a redesigned Control Center for the Apple TV. Another new element is support for VPN applications, in spite of the fact that it is not yet clear assuming there will be any impediments.
Users of Apple TV may be able to watch geo-restricted content from any location using VPN apps, such as the U.S. Netflix version in another country. However, given that Apple emphasized the VPN apps’ potential to benefit educational and business users in its tvOS 17 press release, it is possible that Apple will restrict their use.
tvOS 17 will be released later this year, but anyone with an Apple developer account can download the beta version right now. All Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD models released after 2015 are compatible with the software update. In the coming months, the first VPN apps should begin to appear in the Apple TV App Store.
