In most cases, Samsung is the first smartphone manufacturer to use Corning’s brand-new Gorilla Glass protection. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 was unveiled by Corning a few months ago and promised to be more resistant to shatter while maintaining the same scratch resistance. The company has now confirmed that the next-generation Galaxy smartphone will use Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
This indicates that the front and back of the Galaxy S23 series are protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2 technology. This new protection panel has improved drop performance on rough surfaces like concrete and is made of glass. When a phone is dropped from waist height on a concrete surface, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 will not break. It is also said to be resistant to shattering when dropped on the tarmac at head-level.
According to Corning, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 has received Environmental Claim Validation for its environmental focus and contains an average of 22% pre-consumer recycled content. This assertion has been validated by the independent research and analysis firm UL (Underwriters Laboratories).
“Our next generation of Galaxy flagship smartphones are the first devices to use Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, offering better durability and improved sustainability at the same time,” stated Stephanie Choi, Executive VP and CMO of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics.
